Templates vs. Presets

Which one to use and when?

Both templates and presets are designed to streamline your content creation process, but knowing when to use each can significantly impact your workflow. This guide will help you understand the key differences and when to choose templates over presets.

Templates

Templates are ideal when you want to maintain a consistent look across multiple videos with branding elements like logos, watermarks, and static designs. When you apply a template, it automatically adjusts the timing of all elements to appear throughout the entire video.

However, if you need to customize the timing of specific elements, you can easily adjust them in the layers. Select the element, navigate to the point where you want it to end, press "T" to split it, and remove the excess portion. There are various other ways to fine-tune the timing of elements, which you can explore here:

Adjust Elements Timings, Cut Out Parts, Trim, and More

Note: Templates are not yet supported in the early access clip detector, but support will be added soon.

When to Use Templates:

  • For square videos with branding elements, such as lower and upper bars

  • When creating content with multiple layers and you need uniformity across all videos

Presets

Unlike templates, presets don’t alter the entire layout. They only affect specific components, such as text or subtitles. This is particularly useful for customizing the appearance of subtitles or headlines. With presets, you can create reusable styles for your text components and apply them across future projects with a single click.

When you apply a preset, it won’t change the timing of the component, but it will adjust other aspects like position, animations and appearance to match the saved preset.

When to Use Presets:

  • To create reusable headlines

  • To design custom subtitles

  • To tweak existing system presets to fit your style

Combining Templates and Presets

You can also use both templates and presets together. For instance, apply a template during the video upload to establish your branding, and then add a custom text preset at the beginning of the video to create a visual hook.

This combination allows for greater flexibility, as the template handles the overall structure, while the preset ensures specific elements like text are styled and positioned as needed.
